Sow seeds directly outdoors in early spring or late summer, 1/4 inch deep in well-draining, fertile soil. Purslane thrives in full sun but can tolerate partial shade, especially in warmer climates. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Thin seedlings to 6-8 inches apart to allow for healthy growth. Water regularly to maintain even moisture, and mulch around plants to retain moisture and control weeds. Purslane is hardy and can withstand light frost, making it ideal for cooler weather. Fertilize with compost or a balanced fertilizer to encourage robust growth. Harvest the tender, succulent leaves once they are large enough, typically 30-50 days after sowing. Regular harvesting encourages new growth.
