Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost date. Plant seeds about 1/4 inch deep in seed trays or pots with well-draining, fertile soil. Keep the soil warm (70°F - 80°F/21°C - 27°C) and moist until germination, which takes 7-14 days. After the last frost, and once soil temperatures are above 60°F (16°C), transplant seedlings outdoors in a sunny location with well-draining soil. Space plants 18-24 inches apart to allow for proper growth. Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer to encourage strong growth and fruiting. Prune suckers and lower leaves to improve airflow and reduce disease risk. Harvest when the tomatoes turn a deep red-brown, typically 70-85 days after transplanting.
