Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost date or directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed. Plant seeds about 1/4 inch deep in well-draining, fertile soil in a sunny location. Sweet marjoram prefers full sun and warm temperatures (70°F - 85°F/21°C - 29°C). Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy during germination. Once established, marjoram is drought-tolerant but still benefits from regular watering. Thin seedlings to 6-8 inches apart to allow for proper growth. Fertilize lightly with a balanced fertilizer or compost. Harvest the leaves when the plant is established, typically 60-75 days after sowing. Marjoram grows best when harvested frequently to encourage new growth and prevent it from flowering too early.
