Sow seeds directly in well-draining, fertile soil after the last frost date, when the soil has warmed to at least 60°F (15°C). Plant seeds 1-2 inches deep, spacing them 8-12 inches apart in rows, with rows about 30-36 inches apart. Sweet corn needs full sun and consistently moist soil, especially during germination and when the kernels develop. Water regularly to keep the soil moist, but avoid waterlogging. Fertilize with compost or a balanced fertilizer to support healthy growth. Thin seedlings to 10-12 inches apart once they have a few leaves. Corn is wind-pollinated, so it's best to plant in blocks rather than single rows for better pollination. Harvest when the ears are plump, and the kernels are golden and milky, about 75-85 days after sowing.
