Sow seeds directly in well-draining, fertile soil in early spring or fall. Plant seeds about 1/8 inch deep, pressing them lightly into the soil but not covering them too much, as they need light to germinate. Nettle prefers full sun to partial shade and thrives in moist, slightly acidic to neutral soil. Keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged, especially during dry spells. Thin seedlings to allow 12-18 inches between plants to promote healthy growth. Fertilize with compost or organic matter to support vigorous growth. Be cautious when handling, as nettles have stinging hairs. Harvest leaves when young for culinary or medicinal use. Once established, nettle is a hardy perennial that will return year after year.
