Sow seeds directly in well-draining, fertile soil in early spring or fall, as spinach prefers cooler temperatures (50°F - 60°F/10°C - 16°C). Plant seeds about 1/2 inch deep, spacing them 2-3 inches apart. Spinach needs full sun but can tolerate some light shade, especially in warmer weather. Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy, and water regularly to prevent bolting. Thin seedlings to 4-6 inches apart to allow space for growth. Fertilize lightly with compost or a balanced fertilizer to encourage healthy leaf development. Harvest leaves when they are young and tender, typically 30-45 days after sowing. For a continuous harvest, sow seeds every 2-3 weeks.
