Sow seeds directly in well-draining, dry to moderately moist soil in a sunny location, either in spring after the last frost or in fall. Plant seeds about 1/4 inch deep. Purple Prairie Clover thrives in full sun and is drought-tolerant once established. Keep the soil lightly moist until germination, but avoid overwatering. Space plants 12-18 inches apart to allow for proper air circulation. Fertilize sparingly, as this plant prefers nutrient-poor soils. Once established, water only during extended dry periods. Purple Prairie Clover attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies and is a great addition to native gardens. It typically blooms in mid to late summer. After flowering, allow the seeds to mature and collect them or leave them for wildlife.
