Sow seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost date, or directly outdoors after the soil has warmed. Plant seeds about 1/4 inch deep in well-draining, fertile soil in a sunny location. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during germination. Thin seedlings to 4-6 inches apart to allow room for bulb growth. Onions thrive in cooler temperatures (55°F - 75°F/13°C - 24°C) and full sun. Water regularly, especially during dry periods, and mulch to retain moisture. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer or compost for strong growth. Harvest when bulbs are firm and large, and the tops begin to yellow, typically 100-120 days after sowing. Cure and store in a cool, dry place for long-term storage.
