Sow seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost date, or directly outdoors once the soil is warm. Plant seeds about 1/4 inch deep in well-draining, fertile soil in a sunny location. Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy during germination. Thin seedlings to 4-6 inches apart to allow space for bulb development. Onions prefer cooler temperatures (55°F - 75°F/13°C - 24°C) and full sun. Water regularly, especially during dry periods, and mulch to help retain moisture. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer or compost to support strong growth. Harvest when the bulbs are firm and the tops begin to yellow, typically 100-120 days after sowing. Store in a cool, dry place once fully cured.
