1. Sow Indoors or Outdoors: Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost or sow directly outdoors in early spring. For indoor sowing, use a well-draining seed-starting mix and lightly press the seeds onto the soil's surface, as they need light to germinate.
2. Germination: Keep the soil moist and maintain a temperature of 65–75°F (18–24°C). Germination usually takes 14–21 days.
3. Transplanting: Once the seedlings are large enough to handle and the outdoor temperature is suitable, harden them off and transplant them outdoors. Space plants about 18–24 inches apart.
4. Sunlight and Care: Hollyhocks prefer full sun and well-drained soil. Water regularly, but avoid waterlogging. They also benefit from mulching to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Staking may be necessary for taller varieties to prevent them from toppling.
Charters Double Hollyhock produces large, beautiful, double-flowered blooms in a variety of colors, perfect for adding height and drama to garden beds or borders.
